The point-of-care data layer for orthopedics

Turn every visit into structured data.

LastPatient captures every visit as it happens and turns each fact into a defined variable. You get a complete note. And you finally get to see and access your data. Alongside the EMR you already have.

Building a data layer, then asking it questionsVariables from eight sources (ambient clinical data, agentic checkout, physical examination, diagnostic imaging, longitudinal clinical records, operative and procedural data, PROMs and current evidence) shrink into dots and fill regions of a sphere until it is complete. First, simple questions you could answer from a spreadsheet, such as how many surgeries were done last year, light up the few sources they need. Then the sources disappear, the sphere moves to the center under the title Your data layer, which becomes a living model for advanced analytics. Complex questions type into a bar with the LastPatient mark; the mark presses, the sphere stops turning and warps, and points across every region light up in a flickering web, before it reforms for the next question.Ambient clinicaldataAgentic checkoutPhysicalexaminationDiagnostic imagingLongitudinal clinicalrecordsOperative &procedural dataPROMsCurrent evidenceBUILDING THE DATA LAYERASK YOUR DATAYour data layerYour data layer becomes a living model for advanced analytics.

What LastPatient is

For orthopedic clinicians and organizations, LastPatient is a point-of-care data layer that works alongside the EMR. It structures every visit as it’s captured, so clinicians can analyze their own operations and patient outcomes on demand. Unlike the EMR, which is built to bill, LastPatient gives clinicians access to their data and the means to make better business and care decisions, from simple day-to-day operations to advanced research.

How it works

Capture the visit your way. Confirm it before you close the note.

  1. 1

    Talk, type or dictate

With the patient’s consent, Capture can listen to the visit. You can also type, click, dictate or use your own dot phrases. Use whatever fits the moment.

  2. 2

Variables defined by the data layer

LastPatient’s own database structure defines every variable. AI places what you say and enter into them, using the visit type, the patient’s history and everything from the visit as context. Coming later: anything it isn’t sure of will come back to you as a question before you close the note.

  3. 3

You confirm it, then close the note

You check the variables and sign off before you close the note. Your note and your codes come from those same variables, and so does any analysis later.

Why we built it

Your notes hold the detail. Your EMR makes it hard to use.

LastPatient was built by orthopedic surgeons, for the way orthopedic clinics actually run.

Hard to capture. Clicking between screens and past charts pulls you away from the patient, and detail from the conversation gets lost.

Hard to reuse. A note is free text. To use it for research, someone has to go back through charts by hand and pull the data out.

Hard to see. Your own operations and outcomes sit in a system built for billing, so you wait on someone else’s report.

LastPatient captures each visit into defined variables while it happens. You get a complete note, data that’s ready for research, and a clear view of your own work.

Scattered fragments of a visit snapping into a structured grid

Why now

AI can read your notes. It can’t fill in what was never captured.

Confirmed beats inferred

A variable the surgeon confirms is ground truth. A fact a model pulls out of a free-text note later is a guess, and someone still has to check it.

Built once, not per study

A new question shouldn’t mean reprocessing every record. When the variables are defined at the visit, it doesn’t.

Payers already use AI

Claims are already being reviewed by software. Documentation that’s structured and consistent holds up when that happens.

One standard, every center

Every center defines the same variables the same way. So the data pools without anyone re-abstracting charts (going back through them by hand to pull the data out).

For orthopedic practices

Capture writes the note as you go and puts every fact in a defined variable, so your documentation and coding hold up.
